REM love. 2005-06-14 - 12:54 a.m. Went to see REM last night… night before last, I mean, seeing as it's 1am right now. It was beautiful. :-). And I'm not saying that because I'm a rabid fan… I think they're a great band, but it's not like I know all of their songs. Micheal Stipe is a genius. And he's so little, like a pixie, except, bald… :-D. You wouldn't think he could sing like that, from his diminutive size, but oh yes he can. He has electric eyes. What I mean by that is, even though he was singing to a huge festival crowd, and even though he was enjoying himself, his eyes remained entirely serious. He looked like he was scrutinising the faces of everyone in front of him… so… calm, and focused. Which is totally magnetic, for anyone paying the remotest bit of attention. No-one else quite connected to the crowd in the same way he did, just with the eyes. He sang Losing My Religion, and looked like he believed every word, thousands of voices joining in. It was so COOL! (to be eloquent about it). They had a sense of humour, too. At the end, the pixie stripped his shirt off, and the guitarist picked him up hollywood style and spun around with him. Was sweet. They were the highlight of the whole festival weekend for me, looking back. I wish I could replay the experience, whenever I want to. Oh, to be a robot, with a video player implanted in my head, etc… Such a common dream, will it ever be realised? :-P
